DESCRIPTION:CSVT Bridge: Design and Construction Challenges\nThe CSVT River Bridge is a key component to a new 13-mile stretch of highway near Selinsgrove and Northumberland\, Pennsylvania. The bridge is a six-lane\, 15-span\, 7/8-mile-long multi-girder structure comprised of three independent 5-span steel superstructure units. The eight 9′-6″-deep steel plate girders are spaced at 12′-3″ and reach a maximum span length of 350′.\nThe bridge substructure consists of hammerhead piers on either spread footings or drilled caisson foundations. Ranging from 70′ to 180′ above the footings\, the pier heights vary along the length of the bridge. The height of the piers and the proposed pier stem cross-section places the piers outside AASHTO slenderness limits\, which required advanced analyses of second-order effects in lieu of the typical approximate method used for estimating second-order effects. \nThis presentation covers the challenges of designing and optimizing long span steel multi-girders\, lateral bracing\, diaphragms\, and slender piers\, as well as the consideration of substructure system interaction. This presentation will focus on providing an update on the Terminal Modernization Program\, the development of Neighborhood 91\, new cargo development and the microgrid. \nAbout our speaker… \nTom is the Vice President of Engineering for the Allegheny County Airport Authority.  Tom is responsible for managing the engineering and construction for all capital improvement and development projects at both the Pittsburgh International Airport and the Allegheny County Airport.  Tom has over 31 years of professional experience in both the private and public sectors including aviation\, automotive\, iron and steel\, midstream oil and gas development\, and public water and sewer.  Tom holds an MBA from Robert Morris University\, as well as a B.S. in Environmental Engineering Technology and an Associate Degree in Electrical Engineering Technology from Penn State. He is also a registered professional engineer in Pennsylvania\, Ohio\, and West Virginia and is a Board Certified Environmental Engineer. \nJoin us on Wednesday\, April 21\, 2021 for this virtual webinar on the development of the Pittsburgh International Airport.
