SUMMARY:An ESWP Program Committee Webinar: PWSA
DESCRIPTION:Lead Service Line Replacement Programs – 2016 to the Present and Beyond\nAs a result of a LCR exceedance in 2016\, Pittsburgh Water and Sewer Authority (PWSA) developed an industry-leading Lead Service Line Replacement (LSLR) program for residential water customers. Since that date\, work has been conducted at over 14\,300 locations\, replacing over 8\,300 public and over 5\,350 private lead service lines. The program’s focus\, replacing PWSA-owned infrastructure while preventing partial service line replacements\, has evolved since the start as lessons learned from Pittsburgh and other programs around the United States have been applied. While much work remains to meet PWSA’s goal to remove all lead service lines by 2026\, the effort is well on its way. \nPWSA’s presentation will provide details of the program development\, outreach\, customer service\, data management and construction. A large focus will be on customer engagement (PWSA cannot do any private side work without the property owner’s permission) and data collection efforts. Proper and detailed data collection is critical\, to allow the LSLR activities to be used for service line material updates. \nFinally\, the presentation will touch on the recently enacted revisions to the Lead and Copper Rule\, which changes PWSA’s LSLR program complies with and what will be necessary going forward. \nDaniel T. Duffy\, P.E. is a Principal of East Woods Consulting and has served as PWSA’s Lead Service Line Replacement Program Manager for over three years. He has both a Master of Science and Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering\, is a registered Professional Engineer in four states including Pennsylvania and has over 31 years of experience in the Northeast United States and in Southeast Asia. \nOops! SUMMARY:IWC Webinar
DESCRIPTION:“Best of IWC”\nThe Best of IWC Webinar Series is a great way to preview the high quality technical content presented at the International Water Conference®.\n \n  \nAttendees can earn 1 pdh credit! \nWebinars are FREE to attend\, but registration is required for pdh certification. \n  \n\n  \nTopic: Monitoring  /  Power & Ash  —  Scroll Down to Register\nIWC 20-58: The Value (and the Challenges) of Corrosion Transport Monitoring  (2020 Best Overall Paper Award)\nColleen M. Scholl\, P.E.\, HDR \nMonitoring of corrosion products in power plants is an indicator of the success of the cycle chemistry program. This paper will discuss the value of instituting a formal corrosion transport monitoring program and detail the effort involved in optimization of a plant specific program. It will review methods for corrosion transport monitoring in steam generator cycles including the associated benefits and limitations. Case studies will be utilized to illustrate the process and the obtainable benefits. \nIWC 20-66: Controlling Oxidation Air in an FGD Absorber as a Means to Simplify Wastewater Treatment  (2020 First Time Presenter Award)\nAdam Sutherland\, P.E.\, Stantec; Lindy Johnson; Bill Kennedy\, Stantec \nThis paper presents experiences and benefits of a full scale installation of an oxidation air control system in a wet FGD application. Benefits include significant operational cost savings and improved wastewater treatability using chemical precipitation to aid compliance with EPA’s proposed 2019 ELGs for selenium and mercury. Liquor sulfite concentration as well as unit load and inlet SO2 are used to control the oxidation air flow rate to the absorber reaction tanks of a once through forced oxidation FGD scrubber. Impacts to the scrubber and wastewater chemistry will be described including comparisons to pre sulfite controlled operations. \n

SUMMARY:An ESWP Program Committee Webinar: CSVT Bridge
DESCRIPTION:CSVT Bridge: Design and Construction Challenges\nThe CSVT River Bridge is a key component to a new 13-mile stretch of highway near Selinsgrove and Northumberland\, Pennsylvania. The bridge is a six-lane\, 15-span\, 7/8-mile-long multi-girder structure comprised of three independent 5-span steel superstructure units. The eight 9′-6″-deep steel plate girders are spaced at 12′-3″ and reach a maximum span length of 350′.\nThe bridge substructure consists of hammerhead piers on either spread footings or drilled caisson foundations. Ranging from 70′ to 180′ above the footings\, the pier heights vary along the length of the bridge. The height of the piers and the proposed pier stem cross-section places the piers outside AASHTO slenderness limits\, which required advanced analyses of second-order effects in lieu of the typical approximate method used for estimating second-order effects. \nThis presentation covers the challenges of designing and optimizing long span steel multi-girders\, lateral bracing\, diaphragms\, and slender piers\, as well as the consideration of substructure system interaction. Construction challenges and issues will be discussed as well. \nPresenters are: \nJason DeFlitch\, PE\, SAI Consulting Engineers\, Inc.\nMatthew T. Stahl\, PE\, Trumbull Corporation\nAhmad K. Ahmadi\, PhD\, PE\, SAI Consulting Engineers\, Inc.
