SUMMARY:An ESWP Program Committee Webinar: PWSA
DESCRIPTION:Lead Service Line Replacement Programs – 2016 to the Present and Beyond\nAs a result of a LCR exceedance in 2016\, Pittsburgh Water and Sewer Authority (PWSA) developed an industry-leading Lead Service Line Replacement (LSLR) program for residential water customers. Since that date\, work has been conducted at over 14\,300 locations\, replacing over 8\,300 public and over 5\,350 private lead service lines. The program’s focus\, replacing PWSA-owned infrastructure while preventing partial service line replacements\, has evolved since the start as lessons learned from Pittsburgh and other programs around the United States have been applied. While much work remains to meet PWSA’s goal to remove all lead service lines by 2026\, the effort is well on its way. \nPWSA’s presentation will provide details of the program development\, outreach\, customer service\, data management and construction. A large focus will be on customer engagement (PWSA cannot do any private side work without the property owner’s permission) and data collection efforts. Proper and detailed data collection is critical\, to allow the LSLR activities to be used for service line material updates. \nFinally\, the presentation will touch on the recently enacted revisions to the Lead and Copper Rule\, which changes PWSA’s LSLR program complies with and what will be necessary going forward. \nDaniel T. Duffy\, P.E. is a Principal of East Woods Consulting and has served as PWSA’s Lead Service Line Replacement Program Manager for over three years. He has both a Master of Science and Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering\, is a registered Professional Engineer in four states including Pennsylvania and has over 31 years of experience in the Northeast United States and in Southeast Asia. \nOops! SUMMARY:ESWP Program Committee Webinar - ALCOSAN
DESCRIPTION:ALCOSAN’s Clean Water Plan Update\nIt has been estimated that nine (9) billion gallons of overflow enter our rivers and streams during heavy rain and snow melt events. ALCOSAN’s Clean Water Plan (CWP) will reduce the overflow by approximately seven (7) billion gallons.  The four components of the CWP are preventing excess water from entering the sewer system\, increasing conveyance capacity\, regionalizing multi-municipal sewers\, and expanding the wastewater treatment plant.  This webinar will provide an update on the work associated with each of these program components. \nRegister below – webinar link will be sent via email the day before. \nSpeakers: \nKimberly Kennedy\, Director of Engineering and Construction \nJan Oliver\, Director of Regional Conveyance \nMike Lichte\, Manager of Planning \nTim Prevost\, Manager of Wet Weather Programs \nJeff Argyros\, Manager of Program Management \n  \n

SUMMARY:An ESWP Program Committee Webinar - Bonner Bridge Replacement
DESCRIPTION:A New Bridge over the Oregon Inlet\, Outer Banks\nPDH REQUEST FORM\nPresented by Nick Burdette\, HDR\, Pittsburgh\, PA\nTraveling the scenic North Carolina Outer Banks on NC Highway 12 requires crossing Oregon Inlet\, one of the most dangerous inlets on the Atlantic coast\, where treacherous currents\, constantly shifting bathymetry\, and violent storms are normal occurrences. Since its completion in 1962\, the Herbert C. Bonner Bridge served as that critical link between Hatteras and Bodie Islands. Unfortunately\, the Bonner Bridge has suffered from severe scour and deterioration in the harsh marine environment\, and has required nearly continual maintenance\, repair\, and retrofit. In 2011\, NCDOT awarded a design-build contract to replace the bridge\, requiring a 100-year service life\, design for up to 84’ of scour\, and minimal environmental impacts. The associated design and construction challenges created opportunities for innovation and creativity. The resulting 2.8 mile long bridge features extensive use of precast concrete construction for quality\, durability\, economy\, and constructability\, a first-of-its-kind driven pile foundation verification method\, and innovative\, environmentally-sensitive construction approaches. \n  \nFree to attend\, earn 1 PDH Credit\, from the comfort of your computer  \n  \n \n  \n← Click the computer to register (then use Register link on the left)

SUMMARY:An ESWP Program Committee Webinar - Steel Bridges
DESCRIPTION:Steel Bridges in the 21st Century\nSteel bridges have been designed\, fabricated\, and constructed for over 100 years\, with many centurion steel bridges still in-service today!  However\, the steel bridges we design and fabricate today are not your parents\, your grandparents\, or even your great-grandparents bridges.  This presentation will address both historic trends\, as well as recent innovations and developments in the steel bridge industry\, touching on available resources\, materials\, and design advancements that may be a benefit to you on your next steel bridge project. \n  \nPresented by: \nBrandon Chavel\, Ph.D.\, P.E.\, is the Director of Market Development for the National Steel Bridge Alliance\, a division of the American Institute of Steel Construction. He dedicates time to providing technical assistance\, tools\, and resources for steel bridges to bridge owners\, designers\, fabricators\, and technical committees. Prior to joining the NSBA\, Brandon spent 17 years in the bridge consulting profession with HDR\, Inc. as a senior bridge engineer and bridge section manager in Cleveland. Brandon earned his B.S.\, M.S.\, and Ph.D. in Civil Engineering from the University of Pittsburgh. \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n

SUMMARY:An ESWP Program Committee Webinar
DESCRIPTION:GEOTECHNICAL REPORTS: PROPER USE IN DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION CONTRACTING\nRecording: Facebook Live \n  \nPDH REQUEST FORM \n  \nPresented by Douglas M. Clark\, P.E.\, Civil & Environmental Consultants\, Inc.\, Pittsburgh\, PA \n  \nSubsurface conditions represent some of the largest uncertainties and risks in civil construction. Fortunately\, most owners recognize the need to perform a geotechnical investigation as part of the design development to obtain information pertinent to project design and construction. What is often less understood is how the geotechnical report and information should be used in design\, and how it applies to the construction contract. Many assume\, often incorrectly\, that the geotechnical report serves as a “baseline” for establishing the site conditions. While this may be true in some cases\, most standard contract general conditions (AIA\, EJCDC\, etc.) place the risks associated with subsurface conditions on the bidder\, and provide the geotechnical report only as information\, not as a contract document. This presentation discusses the issue of reliance on the geotechnical report by the parties involved\, presents case-studies\, and provides recommendations for owners and contractors to reduce risks. \n  \nFree to attend\, earn 1 PDH Credit\, from the comfort of your computer desk
