SUMMARY:ESWP / PSPE Program with ALCOSAN
DESCRIPTION:SAVE THE DATE!\nRegistration & Breakfast Buffet – 8am \nProgram – 8:30am \nThe ALCOSAN Wastewater Treatment Expansion and the Ohio River Tunnel (ORT) Project are part of The Clean Water Plan (CWP)\, a $2 billion\, long-term plan ALCOSAN submitted as a solution to eliminate approximately 7 billion gallons of combined sewer overflows (CSOs) annually into the Ohio\, Allegheny\, and Monongahela Rivers by 2036.  As required by a Consent Decree signed by the U.S. Department of Justice\, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency\, and the PA Department of Environmental Protection\, ALCOSAN is required to implement the CWP with an aggressive schedule. \nThe CWP includes the proposed expansion at the Woods Run WWTP.  The proposed upgrades will expand the WWTP wet weather primary treatment capacity to 600 mgd. The secondary capacity of the WWTP will be increased to 295 mgd\, from its currently permitted full treatment capacity of 250 mgd. The major projects associated with the expansion include a wet weather pump station\, a 360 mgd east headworks facility\, additional primary sedimentation and final secondary settling tanks\, solids thickening and dewatering improvements\, and construction of a second chlorine contact tank with a dry weather discharge outfall. \nThe Ohio River Tunnel (ORT) is the first of three new\, large diameter deep tunnel projects that ALCOSAN will use toward the CWP’s overall goal to significantly reduce CSOs released into the region’s three rivers.   The ORT Project includes one main rock tunnel (approximately 150 feet below ground) generally running parallel to the Ohio and Allegheny Rivers and two branch tunnels crossing beneath the Ohio River.   The primary components of the ORT project include the main rock tunnel\, ten shafts\, two branch tunnels (Chartiers Creek and Saw Mill Run) and several near surface facilities. \n  \nSpeakers: Mike Lichte and Kim Kennedy \n  \n \n

SUMMARY:ESWP Webinar - IRISE at the University of Pittsburgh
DESCRIPTION:Join us for our next ESWP Program Committee Webinar!\n  \n \nIRISE is guided by two main principles: \n\nInnovative solutions to highway infrastructure problems are best achieved through a collaboration between the public agencies that own and operate the infrastructure and the private companies that design and build it.\nHighway infrastructure research must aim to provide implementable solutions that meet the needs of these agencies and companies.\n\nOver its life\, IRISE has produced research products addressing member needs in areas such as bridge corrosion and condition assessment\, landslide risks\, and concrete pavement design\, materials\, and strength evaluation.  In addition\, ongoing efforts are exploring issues related to research benefits analysis\, landslide best practices and data analysis\, highway construction worker safety\, and pavement construction\, materials\, and performance. This webinar will summarize some this work as well as the process adopted to insure impactful and implementable results. \nFREE to attend\, registration is required. \n  \n

DESCRIPTION:We are pleased to announce the return of our Affiliated Technical Society Fair!\nSimilar to a job fair or college fair\, this event is geared to the professional technical.  Our Fair provides the opportunity for all groups to promote their organization to the greater engineering community.  The benefits for attendees of this meeting will be: \n\n\n\nNetwork with fellow professionals/renew old acquaintances.\nOpportunity to learn about other technical societies in Pittsburgh and help your own society with that knowledge.\nCelebrate the engineering profession!\n\n\n\n\nReserve your booth today;\nRegister as an attendee below or click here;\nGo here to learn more and view our member societies.\n\nFor those who have never visited ESWP\, here is your chance to enjoy the unique atmosphere and features of this facility\, with free appetizers and soft drinks\, along with a cash bar. \nInvitations are open to all professional technical organizations! All individual members of participating societies would be invited to attend\, through the society’s normal newsletter\, website\, etc.  Each society would be provided with a table to display materials of their choice. \nIf you have any questions\, please feel free to contact David Teorsky at 412-261-0710\, ext. 15. \n  \nThe guest speaker for the evening: \nFuture World Vision:  Engineering the Future Built Environment\nPresented by Jerry Buckwalter\n \nFrom climate change to autonomous vehicles\, engineers are confronting a variety of environmental challenges\, demographic shifts and technological changes that will require a drastic rethinking of how we build\, operate\, and maintain our infrastructure systems. Planning for the future is difficult for nearly every organization. ASCE decided to launch the Future World Vision project to help meet this challenge. We compiled and winnowed more than 100 global macrotrends to examine six important sociopolitical\, economic\, environmental\, and technological trends as key drivers of change for future built infrastructure. \n  \n  \n
