Colleen Layman is a senior life member of the Society of Women Engineers and has been actively involved in leadership roles within the organization for over 15 years. She is currently serving on the Society Board of Directors as the Society President for the 2015-2016 fiscal year.
Professionally, Colleen has more than 20 years of experience in the engineering design, construction, commissioning, and operation of power generating facilities, with special focus on water and wastewater systems. Currently, Colleen is a Vice President with HDR, an engineering consulting firm headquartered in Omaha, NE, where she directs engineering and business development activities focused on solving clients’ challenges related to industrial water and wastewater management and treatment practices in the energy sector. Colleen is also an active member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) and has served on two ASME committees: the Research and Technology Committee on Water and Steam in Thermal Systems and the Performance Test Code (PTC) committee #31 on High Purity Water Treatment Systems. She is also an active member of the Engineers’ Society of Western Pennsylvania serving on the Water Conference Executive Committee since 2009 and where she served as General Chairperson of the International Water Conference in 2014 and 2015.
Colleen holds a BS in Mechanical Engineering Technology from Thomas Edison State College, a MS in Water Resources and Environmental Engineering from Villanova University, and a MBA in Management of Engineering and Technology from Northcentral University. She is also a registered Professional Engineer (PE) in the states of Ohio, Wisconsin, and Maryland.
