Knowledge Leads to Progress: The New Climate of Brownfields

The Engineers’ Society of Western Pennsylvania (ESWP), in partnership with the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (DEP), has opened the call for presentations for the 2020 Pennsylvania Brownfields Conference! We seek presentations with current, relevant, and informative content on a wide range of topics involved in bringing a brownfield back to successful reuse.

While fundamental issues such as financing, funding, remediation and others will always provide the foundation for reuse, we hope to go beyond these traditional topics to present a program that is thought-provoking and forward thinking with “what’s next” for the brownfields industry.

Please consider submitting a brief abstract with these thoughts in mind and tell us which of the following themes your presentation falls within (you may choose more than one theme). Abstracts are due no later than September 27, 2019. Invited presenters will be notified in early October.

  •

Themes (you may choose more than one)

  • How do we educate our stakeholders, how can we best prepare our brownfields workforce and utilizing brownfields for education?

  • Brownfield redevelopment has the power to energize communities. How does your story improve the community, and who benefited?

  • New and emerging trends in the redevelopment of brownfields. What’s happening in your area and how do you learn from other community trends?

  • Working with what you have, and creating destinations. How does a community deal with an historic building or develop a master plan?

  • Many sites are prime for development, but is the necessary infrastructure in place to make it a reality? How do we overcome these challenges?

  • The technical issues that are important to a successful brownfield redevelopment.
