The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) and the Engineers Society of Western PA (ESWP) are pleased to announce the 2026 Keystone Awards for brownfield redevelopment.
The Keystone Awards will be presented at the 2026 PA Brownfields Conference, March 23-26, 2026 at Wind Creek Resort in Bethlehem, PA. The Awards recognize the impressive work being done in communities across the Commonwealth to bring new life to former industry sites. Nominations are now closed for this year. Award categories are:
Project Awards:
1. Stakeholder Engagement Award
- The Stakeholder Engagement Award recognizes the project, team, developer, or individual in Pennsylvania which demonstrated an exemplary commitment to outreach and team building. These stakeholders went above and beyond to secure partnerships with the organizations and communities impacted by the project.
2. Community Impact Award
- The Community Impact Award recognizes the project in Pennsylvania that has a substantial positive impact on the local community and best addresses the community’s needs.
3. Innovation Award
- The Innovation Award recognizes the project in Pennsylvania that forges a new path for brownfield redevelopment through the use of cutting-edge techniques and technologies, or through the implementation of an innovative end use.
4. Adaptive Reuse Award
- The Adaptive Reuse Award recognizes the project in Pennsylvania that best utilized the site’s existing structures and infrastructure, minimizing demolition while maintaining a sense of identity and civic pride. The revitalization of the site must be complete to be considered for the Adaptive Reuse Award.
Professional Awards:
5. Early Career Professional Award
- The Early Career Professional Award recognizes an exceptional new Pennsylvania professional with 8 or fewer years of service in the brownfield industry. This individual has made great strides in the brownfield community, demonstrating impressive creativity and impact.
6. Outstanding Career Service Award
- The Outstanding Career Service Award celebrates a remarkable professional who has demonstrated exceptional commitment to the Pennsylvania brownfields sector , making a significant impact on their individual projects and to the brownfields community.
Winning projects will receive a commemorative plaque or trophy.
